New reporting from Georgia Recorder reveals that Burt Jones is flat-out refusing to fight to extend the gas tax suspension. Jones is standing silently as Georgians are forced to pay even more for fuel prices that have jumped overnight.
When asked whether he would support extending the suspension of the gas tax, Jones declined to comment — refusing to stand up for hardworking Georgians who are feeling squeezed by sky-high gas prices brought on by Trump’s Iran War.
The expiration of the gas tax suspension has Georgians paying 33 cents more per gallon in addition to gas prices that have increased by more than a dollar per gallon since February.
Meanwhile, Keisha Lance Bottoms has made clear that she would push for a gas tax suspension as governor as she remains laser-focused on lowering costs for Georgians.
“Burt Jones is refusing to take action while soaring gas prices are breaking Georgians’ budgets. Instead of doing his job and putting the people of Georgia first, he’s spending his time praising Donald Trump as his reckless agenda hurts Georgia’s economy,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “Georgians can’t afford to pay even more at the pump and they certainly can’t afford leaders who won’t stand up for them.”
Jones has already given Georgians no reason to believe that he’d fight to lower their gas prices.
- Jones is the heir to the Jones Petroleum Company, which comes as oil companies have made huge profits since the start of President Trump’s Iran War as Georgians pay more at the pump.
- While this war has single-handedly caused gas prices to spike, Jones continues to praise Trump, telling 11Alive recently, “I trust President Trump and what he’s doing over there in Iran.”
