Former sub-par football coach Derek Dooley has lined up behind the bill that is projected to leave 750,000 Georgians uninsured, as reported on AJC’s Politically Georgia podcast. This comes after Dooley initially refused to comment when asked if he supported the GOP’s toxic budget bill.
Dooley joins candidates and potential candidates in supporting the harmful bill like Rep. Buddy Carter, Commissioner John King, and Rep. Mike Collins:
- “MAGA warrior” Rep. Buddy Carter told Georgians that he “wanted to cut Medicaid more” and was “very proud” to cut Medicaid.
- Insurance Commissioner John King said he would “absolutely” vote to pass the Medicaid cuts in the GOP’s budget bill if he were in the Senate.
- Rep. Mike Collins — a MAGA extremist who is reportedly weighing a run for U.S. Senate — said he wants people to “get off of Medicaid, get off of Social Security.”
“Before even officially getting into the race for U.S. Senate, Derek Dooley has proven that loyalty to Trump and rubber stamping his dangerous agenda is more important than putting Georgians first,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “No matter who comes out of this primary, it’s clear that Republicans are headed toward nominating yet another Donald Trump loyalist who couldn’t care less about standing up for Georgians.”
