Rick Jackson has frequently campaigned on being “Trump’s favorite governor”
Today, Cobb County Democratic leaders hosted a press conference ahead of Donald Trump and Rick Jackson’s joint visit to Wheeler High School to call out Trump and Jackson’s failure to stand up for our state and emphasize Jackson’s strong support for Trump’s policies that are hurting Georgia families.
State Representative Lisa Campbell, former State Representative Alisha Thomas Searcy, SD-37 candidate Darcy Castro, and HD-45 candidate Dr. Michelle Schreiner highlighted how Trump and Jackson’s policies have raised costs and stripped healthcare from 500,000 Georgians. They also emphasized how Jackson has made himself inseparable from Trump, with Jackson frequently saying on the trail that he’s running to be “Trump’s favorite governor.”

Here’s what they had to say about Trump and Jackson’s joint visit today.
State Representative Lisa Campbell: “And another thing to point out right there with [Trump] today will be […] billionaire Rick Jackson, a man who has said he will be Trump’s favorite governor, and nothing less than Trump with a southern tone. You might note that last month he even apparently bought his ticket to be here by giving Trump another million dollar donation just to prove his loyalty. Trump’s and Jackson’s policies are one and the same.”
Former State Rep. Alisha Thomas Searcy: “It’s clear to me that Jackson clearly intends to push the same exact Trump policies no matter how much will hurt Georgia and Cobb families. This is a man who supports Trump’s Big Ugly Bill because it lowered his own taxes, even as it’s cut health care for 500,000 Georgians. He supports tariffs, probably because he’s profiting off of them, even though they drove up the cost of nearly everything across our state. […] Jackson and Trump are cut from the same cloth, and these are two men who are out for nothing but themselves.”
Candidate for SD-37 Darcy Castro: “We need to send a clear message in November to the people of our country and the people right here in Georgia that we deserve and demand better for the sake not only of ourselves but our children’s futures and the communities we love. The last thing we need is a governor whose biggest political achievement is bragging about being the Southern version of Trump.”
Candidate for HD-45 Dr. Michelle Schreiner: “By choosing to stand beside the president at Wheeler, Rick Jackson is once again making it crystal clear that he’s cut from the same cloth as Donald Trump and will continue to profit off our pain.”
It should come as no surprise that Jackson would go out of his way to join Trump, given how closely he has aligned himself with the president throughout his campaign.
- Jackson has repeatedly told voters that he will be “Trump’s favorite governor” and that he will be “Trump with a Southern tone.”
- Jackson has made clear that he’ll govern “just like Trump,” and has even given Trump multiple $1 million donations to prove his loyalty to him, including as recently as last month.
- Just like Trump, Jackson has denied the results of the 2020 election, with the AJC writing that he has “echoed the president’s false claims of widespread election fraud” throughout his campaign.
- Jackson “said he couldn’t name a single White House policy he disagrees with,” according to the AJC. This comes as Jackson has admitted to supporting Trump’s Big Ugly Bill because it lowered his own taxes – and supporting Trump’s tariffs because he made money off them – even as Georgians struggled with rising costs as a result.
