Trump-endorsed Burt Jones today lit a match within the already-expolosive primary for governor, fully supporting Trump’s FBI raid of Fulton County’s election operations center and viciously attacking his GOP opponents in the process.
This comes on the same day as Trump doubled down on his “complete and total” endorsement of Burt Jones at an event in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, demonstrating that this primary is nothing more than a fast-accelerating race to the right and a Trump loyalty test for the candidates.
Jones – who served as a fake Trump elector in 2020 and has long supported efforts to undermine Georgia’s elections – announced his support of the raid on social media, which was connected to Trump’s “long-held, but unproven” 2020 election conspiracies.
In the same breath, Jones brutally went after his GOP opponents, saying Brad Raffensperger hasn’t “hasn’t fixed the corruption” and Chris Carr “hasn’t prosecuted it.”
“Burt Jones has made clear that he will co-sign absolutely anything that Donald Trump does – including recklessly wielding federal law enforcement as a weapon in his personal revenge campaign,” said Jake Strickland, communications advisor to the Georgia Democratic Party. “Now, Jones is already weaponizing Trump’s baseless lies to go scorched earth on his opponents – making this messy primary even messier.”
