Elected leaders highlighted Jackson’s record of corruption and refusal to stand up for Georgia
This week, State Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones, congressional candidate Ceretta Smith, and local veteran Russ Parham held a press conference to hold Rick Jackson accountable for his long record of self-enrichment on the backs of taxpayers.
Jackson has gotten rich off the backs of Georgia taxpayers, making more than $1 billion from state contracts from state agencies, including no-bid contracts – even as he strongly opposes expanding affordable, quality health care for working Georgians.
Here’s what they had to say about Jackson’s long record of corruption.
Minority Leader Harold Jones: “Rick Jackson has devoted his professional career not to helping with [Georgia’s healthcare] crisis, but actually getting rich off the backs of Georgians. […] As 500,000 Georgians have lost their health care, others are barely making it, and as premiums actually skyrocket, Rick Jackson has not provided solutions, but he has figured out a way to actually make money for himself. […] The health care system has failed Georgia, but has not failed Jackson.”
Ceretta Smith: “It really makes me sick that Rick Jackson has benefited and profited off of health care at the same time opposing legislation that would help so many Georgians here in our state. Jackson has made it clear that he opposes Medicaid expansion, which has resulted in nine of our rural hospitals closing, and others are threatening to close as well. It’s shameful, and let me be perfectly clear: it is disqualifying for anyone who wants to be the next governor for the state of Georgia.”
Russ Parham: “I’m a 27 year army veteran […] During my time in the service, I had the opportunity to work with several types of leaders, the good and the not so good. There’s always a clear distinction between the two. […] Access to health care is very critical for me and my fellow veterans, and going into this election, Keisha Lance Bottoms falls into the good leader category. She’s going to be laser focused on expanding healthcare, education, and lowering costs.”
As a reminder, Jackson has a long record of self-enrichment at the expense of working Georgians.
- Rick Jackson has gotten rich on healthcare as Georgians have suffered. He’s enriched himself on no-bid state contracts, and has received over a billion dollars from state agencies, while 500,000 Georgians have lost healthcare in just the past few months.
- Jackson also strongly opposes Medicaid expansion, a position which has resulted in the closure of nine rural hospitals all across Georgia since 2010 – all while enriching himself off Georgians’ healthcare.
- Jackson has also stood accused of defrauding seniors through his billion-dollar healthcare company and paid $700,000 to “resolve allegations” that he participated in a Medicare kickback scheme.
- Jackson has also admitted to profiting off Trump’s policies that hurt Georgia, including making money off Trump’s tariffs that have jacked up costs and paying lower taxes because of the Big Ugly Bill that took away healthcare from half a million Georgians.
