Months of secretive $9 million ads attacking Burt Jones’ record of self-enrichment have fully divided the GOP field for governor. Now the primary is getting even messier, with Jones and Carr pummeling one another as explosive new details are being released about the possible source of the ads.
According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, a Carr aide sent a Republican activist a link on Nov. 26 to the first ad from Georgians for Integrity – two days before the ads accusing Jones of self-dealing actually began running. The Carr campaign denied involvement, but added: “the serious allegations of Burt Jones’s self-dealing are widely known and deserve attention.”
The Jones campaign then further contributed to the chaos, firing back: “Another big swing and a miss from Team Carr. […] I would encourage the Attorney General to spend more time doing his job and less time obsessing over Burt Jones.” Ouch!
As the ads from Georgians for Integrity have become “nearly inescapable to many Georgians,” Burt Jones has continued to go full MAGA to defend himself against the wave of attacks, including sharing a video on X Thursday night touting his endorsement from Trump. But the ads have clearly rattled Jones, who has desperately begged the FCC to pull the ads and took to the Shelley Wynter Show last month to say that that the ads are “trash” and that whoever is putting out these ads should have the “guts…to come out here…to put your name on it.”
