Today, MAGA Republicans in Congress – Marjorie Taylor Greene, Buddy Carter, Drew Ferguson, Rich McCormick, Austin Scott, Andrew Clyde, Mike Collins, Barry Loudermilk, and Rick Allen – continue to threaten Georgians’ wellbeing with a disastrous GOP government shutdown that would cut off financing for small businesses, delay disaster assistance, and create a travel nightmare for Georgians across the state.
“With less than 48 hours until a government shutdown entirely of their own making, Georgia House Republicans continue to use Georgians’ livelihoods and wellbeing as bargaining chips in their partisan political game,” said DPG spokesperson Ellie Schwartz. “Georgia House Republicans – Marjorie Taylor Greene, Buddy Carter, Drew Ferguson, Rich McCormick, Austin Scott, Andrew Clyde, Mike Collins, Barry Loudermilk, and Rick Allen — are marching us towards a devastating shutdown that will cut off critical support for small businesses, disaster relief, senior services, nutritional support for pregnant women, and more, all in pursuit of their extreme agenda.”
MAGA Republicans’ shutdown will have a devastating impact on Georgia businesses, disaster relief, and travel for everyday Georgians:
- A shutdown would force the Small Business Administration (SBA) to stop processing new business loans for small businesses and deny Georgia small businesses an average of nearly $5.5 million in critical financing every day.
- Even as Georgians are still recovering from Hurricane Idalia, a current active disaster in Georgia, MAGA House Republicans’ shutdown could delay disaster recovery projects and allow FEMA’s relief funding to continue to dwindle.
- Georgians could experience travel delays at the airport and be forced to cancel upcoming trips, and more than 500 Georgia air traffic controllers and more than 1700 Georgia TSA workers may be forced to work without pay.
