Today, the Atlanta Press Club hosted a Republican run-off debate in which Burt Jones spouted his extreme MAGA agenda and Rick Jackson was too afraid to show up, replaced on stage instead by an empty podium.
Here’s just a few key takeaways from today’s debate:
Jones Defends Failed ‘Pathways’ Health Care Scam, Proudly Defends Status Quo on Health Care
- When asked about how to increase access to health care as 500,000 Georgians have lost their health insurance in recent months, Jones boasted about his record, saying, “Well, I’ve done it as Lieutenant Governor.” He went on to defend the failed Georgia Pathways program, which has cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars (mostly in consultant fees) while doing next to nothing to provide Georgians with accessible care. Jones has a long record of opposing Medicaid expansion. WATCH HERE.
In the Latest Sign of Just How Messy This Run-off Has Become, Jones Brutally Went After Jackson.
- In a sign of just how nasty this race has become, Jones viciously attacked Jackson for not attending the debate, saying: “It just shows a man’s character when he won’t show up and take questions and Q&A from journalists or whoever else wants to ask you the questions.” He also slammed Jackson for allegations of corruption, saying, “What is the deal with the Medicare fraud and the $750,000 in settlement money that he paid the Department of Justice?” WATCH HERE.
Jones Forcefully Backed Redrawing Maps to Dilute Black Georgians’ Voting Power.
- Jones fully backed Kemp’s call for a special session to redraw Georgia’s maps to dilute Black Georgians’ voting power, saying that he thinks it’s the “right move.” WATCH HERE.
Jones Doubled Down On Undermining the Will of Georgia Voters.
- When asked about his work to undermine Georgia’s elections – including his role as a fake elector in 2020 – Jones doubled down on his record, saying “It is what it is.” WATCH HERE.
