Georgia has a long history of rejecting ultra-wealthy, out-of-touch candidates once their campaigns have to face reality.

Take it from none other than Brian Kemp: he admitted on Monday that he endorsed Jackson’s GOP rival because he wanted the “best folks at the top of the ticket that can win in November.”
Here’s the truth: Jackson’s an out-of-touch billionaire who’s only out for himself and doesn’t even pretend to understand Georgians’ struggles. Jackson had some real weaknesses that emerged over the course of the primary:
- Every time he leaves his house, Jackson makes a gaffe. He admitted to supporting Trump’s tariffs because he made money off them – and boasted about paying lower taxes because of the Big Beautiful Bill. When asked about high gas prices, he revealed that he is the largest outsider investor of a Texas oil refinery – and later admitted that he thinks bringing back the gas tax is the “right and prudent thing to do,” even as Georgians pay a dollar more for gas than they were this time last year.
- Jackson’s first and only debate was a disaster – so bad that his campaign refused to do another one.
- Jackson’s corrupt as they come. He profited big off no-bid state contracts – and stood accused of scamming our seniors in a Medicare kickback scheme through his company.
And as The AJC’s Patricia Murphy put it earlier this year: “Georgia history is full of rich people, from Michael Coles to Guy Millner and Kelly Loeffler, who ran for high office but still fell flat.”
