This week, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey joined 11Alive to call out Rick Jackson for wanting to use the special legislative session to dilute Black voters’ power in Georgia and highlight how Jackson would continue to push to redraw maps as governor.
In the interview, Chair Bailey pointed out that Rick Jackson immediately called for a special session following the Supreme Court’s disastrous ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, overturning decades of civil rights protections. Shortly after the decision was released, Jackson said that “redrawing the maps must be added to the agenda” and that “there is no time to waste.”

Here’s what Chair Bailey had to say about Rick Jackson calling for a special session and the need to elect Keisha Lance Bottoms this November.
On Rick Jackson calling to redraw maps: “We’re going to make sure the people of Georgia remember that come this November that [Jackson] was totally fine with stripping away voting power that had been guaranteed by decades of hard-fought civil rights, won by many people in this state.”
On the importance of electing Keisha Lance Bottoms: “I will say this: electing a Democratic governor for the first time in 28 years will give a lot of protection to the voting rights of the people of the state. A Governor Keisha Lance Bottoms would not allow any maps like this to pass.”
On the stakes of this race: “You’ve got an […] out of touch billionaire that thinks he can buy the Governor’s Mansion, thinks it belongs to the highest bidder and not to the people of the state, somebody that has rubber stamped and been right behind everything Donald Trump wants to do. […] So you’ve got that on one side and then you’ve got Keisha Lance Bottoms on the other, who’s spent her career fighting for working people, and is out there talking about improving schools and expanding Medicaid so we can get some of these rural hospitals back open. That’s the contrast in this race.”
