ICYMI: Georgia Democrats Poised to Flip the Senate Following Robust GOTV Weekend

January 5, 2021

Campaign Reached Out To 6 Million Voters In 3 Days Before Election Day

Today, January 5, Georgia voters will head to the polls to elect Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate in this historic runoff election. Throughout this campaign, Georgia Democrats have fought to turn out as many voters as possible and ensure every voice is heard. In the days leading up to Election Day, the Georgia Runoff Coordinated Campaign organized voters statewide, engaged the strong diverse coalition that flipped Georgia blue in November, and blanketed TV and radio airwaves across the state. With record breaking early voting numbers, robust programming over GOTV weekend, and over 3 million votes cast heading into Election Day, Democrats are poised to flip the Senate blue.

Over the final weekend before Election Day, the organizing team held over 1000 canvass launches in over 130 counties across the state, completing over 20,000 volunteer shifts in the final three days. The digital organizing team held text and phone banks throughout the weekend, with special guests including Senators Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Secretary Juliàn Castro, and Demi Lovato dropping in to rally volunteers and thank them for their work throughout the weekend. The coalitions team engaged communities across the state through events like Posada to the Polls and Rolling Out the Bollywood Red Carpet to mobilize voters ahead of Election Day. In the final three days, the campaign made over 6 million voter contact attempts by door, phone, and text, contacting voters in every Georgia county.

Surrogates including the cast of HBO’s The Wire, Jordan Peele and Bradley Whitford, and Congresswoman Grace Meng campaigned in Georgia to get out the vote for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.

To close out our weekend, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris returned to Georgia in the final stretch of the campaign. On Sunday, Vice President-elect Harris held a rally in Savannah and on Monday, the President-elect traveled to Atlanta to call on Georgians to make sure their voices are heard on Election Day.
