Help Move Georgia Forward
In an effort to curb right-wing activists’ increasing weaponization of voter registration challenges in the run-up to the November election, the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registrations voted 4-1 to mitigate taxpayer expenses for doing so by passing processing costs to the individuals submitting the challenges. Cobb County Elections Director Tate Fall estimated it cost taxpayers about $1,600 to mail notices from one batch of 2,472 voter challenges filed last month alone.
One Cobb County resident, Eugene Williams, has submitted thousands of voter challenges this year, using data generated by EagleAI software that, according to the Associated Press, “is funded and used by supporters of Trump, some of whom worked to overturn the 2020 vote, and entwined with the Republican’s campaign.”
“Right wing political activists are using tools pushed by the most notorious election deniers to generate dubious data and using it to challenge voters across Georgia,” said DPG Executive Director Tolulope Kevin Olasanoye. “Taxpayers aren’t interested in subsidizing conspiracy theories and county election boards shouldn’t be expected to do so either.”
