Governor Kemp is bragging in his State of the State Address about Georgia’s multi-billion dollar budget surplus. This is the same surplus he bragged about while refusing to fund a program to feed hungry Georgia kids over summer break. That’s who Kemp is: hoarding resources to brag about his bottom line while deliberately under-investing in Georgia.
- Georgia has the third-highest uninsured rate in the country;
- One of the worst maternal mortality rates;
- Ranks in the bottom ten for investment in public education;
- Ranks in the bottom ten for health and safety, based on metrics like hospital quality, number of uninsured children, infant mortality, pollution levels, and violent crimes per capita;
- And last year, Kemp opted out of funding summer food assistance for hungry Georgia kids while running a multi-billion dollar surplus.
Georgia Democrats in the state legislature have outlined plans to address exactly the issues facing Georgians thanks to Kemp’s neglect – including plans to make high-quality public education accessible to all, restore reproductive freedom and tackle the maternal mortality crisis, and fully expand Medicaid to bring health coverage to nearly half a million Georgians.
