Georgia’s GOP U.S. Senate candidates have all backed Donald Trump’s budget law that brings devastating consequences to Georgia, including undermining Social Security for the 1.4 million Georgians who rely on the program.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent admitted the bill is a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security,” and Axios reported that the new law law will “speed up” cuts to Social Security benefits by 24% starting in late 2032 — a devastating $18,000 annual cut for a dual-earning couple retiring in 2033.
“MAGA warrior” Rep. Buddy Carter, MAGA extremist Rep. Mike Collins, and failed and fired former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley have all stood by this harmful law, even as new developments reveal just how bad it will be for Georgians:
- Rep. Buddy Carter advocated for cutting “Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare.”
- Rep. Mike Collins told Georgians that he wants them to “get off of Medicaid, get off of Social Security.”
- Derek Dooley supports the bill despite the devastating impacts it could have to Social Security.
“Social Security is a critical lifeline for Georgia’s seniors and all three GOP U.S. Senate candidates have backed a harmful budget law that would severely weaken that lifeline,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “Georgians deserve a U.S. Senator who will protect crucial programs like Social Security, not undermine them. It’s clear that Buddy Carter, Mike Collins, and Derek Dooley cannot be trusted anywhere near the United States Senate.”
