As Georgia Republicans return home for August recess, DPG is reminding voters every day this week of the biggest betrayals of Georgians in Trump’s budget law

Day 3: One of the biggest betrayals of Georgians found in President Donald Trump’s recently enacted budget law is its potential to undermine Social Security.

The GOP U.S. Senate candidates in Georgia have all gone on the record to support Trump’s harmful budget law that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent plainly admitted includes new provisions that serve as a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security.”

Recent reporting in Axios also revealed that Trump’s harmful budget law will “speed up” cuts to Social Security benefits by 24% starting in late 2032 — a devastating $18,000 annual cut for a dual-earning couple retiring in 2033.

Georgia’s GOP U.S. Senate candidates have made clear that attacking critical programs like Social Security, and even Medicaid, are at the top of their priorities:

“Georgians spend their lives working and paying into Social Security, yet every GOP candidate for Senate wants to rip it away by supporting efforts to privatize it,” said Democratic party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “The Democratic Party of Georgia will be reminding Georgians throughout August recess that Collins, Carter, and Dooley cannot be trusted to do what’s right and protect seniors in their retirement.“
