The GOP U.S. Senate primary is getting messier as all three candidates continue to take shots at each other.
On AJC’s Politically Georgia podcast, failed and fired former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley went after both MAGA extremist Rep. Mike Collins and “MAGA warrior” Rep. Buddy Carter, explaining why he thinks he’s the better candidate:
- Greg Bluestein, AJC: “What makes you different? You know, [Mike Collins and Buddy Carter] also have a record of supporting those issues, whereas you don’t have a record in public office.”
- Dooley: “I have a lot of frustration with what’s going on in Washington in many ways. I mean, there’s a lot of great people up there doing good things, but there’s too many people who are up there too long. They get too little results. They make too much money, and they’re more focused on their political careers than they are serving the people of Georgia […]”
Dooley’s new line of attack comes after both Carter and Collins targeted each other while explaining why they are the better MAGA candidate in the GOP U.S Senate primary:
- Carter said, “I’ve been a mayor, I’ve been in the state legislature, I’ve served in Congress […]” and argued that “it’s pretty clear” that he is the better option.
- Collins argued that compared to Carter he has “actually out there working” and “actually promoting” Donald Trump’s harmful agenda while Carter has not.
“Buddy Carter, Mike Collins, and Derek Dooley are now in a knockdown, drag out fight for the GOP nomination, with each candidate more focused on landing petty personal attacks than addressing the big issues Georgians are facing today,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz.
