Georgia Republicans Repeatedly Praised Trump’s Court-Blocked Tariffs

Yesterday, a federal trade court invalidated most of Trump’s tariffs, ruling he had exceeded his authority and that the tariffs lacked “any identifiable limits”

Following news that a federal court ruled Trump’s tariffs illegal, here’s a reminder that Georgia Republicans have repeatedly remained staunch supporters of the MAGA president’s reckless economic policy, even as its implementation has increased costs for Georgians.

#1. Rep. Buddy Carter has cheered for Donald Trump’s tariffs at every turn, saying he “agree[s] with the president on tariffs.” He’s applauded Trump on other occasions for implementing the tariffs, directly stating, “tariffs are the answer.” 

#2. Rep. Mike Collins, for his part, has urged Trump to “keep the wins coming” on the subject of tariffs, insisting that “President Trump’s tariffs strategy works.”

#3. Rep. Rich McCormick lauded Trump for having “skillfully negotiated,” the harmful tariffs.

#4. Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King backed the Trump tariffs unequivocally, stating “I support it” while praising Trump for having the “courage” to impose the tariffs.    

“Buddy Carter, Mike Collins, Rich McCormick, and John King have repeatedly praised Trump’s reckless tariffs, imposed at the expense of hardworking families and small businesses across the Peach State. It’s clear that Georgia Republicans’ loyalty lies with extreme party leaders, not Georgians,” said DPG spokesperson Alex Yerkey.
