Today, all nine Georgia Republicans in Congress voted for MAGA extremist Rep. Mike Johnson, who was deeply involved in efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 loss in Georgia, for Speaker of the House. In response, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Congresswoman Nikema Williams released the following statement:
“House Republicans have finally decided to wrap up more than three weeks of chaos and dysfunction by electing extreme MAGA Rep. Mike Johnson as their Speaker. Not only is Speaker Johnson an anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ extremist who wants to slash Social Security and Medicare – he also played a key role in trying to overturn the free and fair 2020 election results in Georgia. Georgians will not forget that all nine of their Republican representatives voted for an election-denying MAGA conspiracy theorist who tried to make sure their votes wouldn’t count.”
