Georgia Leaders and Reproductive Rights Advocates Declare ‘No Anti-Abortion Senator for GA’ on Dobbs Anniversary [WTOC, Savannah Morning News]

June 25, 2025

New reporting from WTOC and Savannah Morning News highlighted the Georgia leaders and reproductive rights advocates who denounced GOP U.S. Senate candidates for their anti-abortion extremism on the third anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in Savannah.

WTOC:

  • Several Coastal Empire Democrats gathered outside Congressman Buddy Carter’s office on Tuesday to protest his stance on abortion rights.
  • The demonstration comes on the three year anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, a landmark ruling which affirmed abortion as a constitutional right.
  • Carter, a Republican, currently represents Georgia’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, but is now running for Senate against incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff.
  • Chatham County Commissioner Aaron “Adot” Whitely, Georgia State Representative Anne Allen Westbrook, and John Hartman of Men4Choice spoke at the press conference, denouncing Carter’s stance on abortion, as well as Mike Collins, John King, and Brad Raffensperger- all of whom are running or rumored to be running for Ossoff’s Senate seat.

Savannah Morning News: Savannah area Democrat leaders show support for Ossoff, denounce anti-abortion candidates

  • Local members of the Democratic Party of Georgia gathered in Savannah to denounced anti-abortion GOP U.S. Senate candidates on the third anniversary of Roe v. Wade being overturned.
  • In attendance was Chatham County Commissioner District 6 and Chatham County Democratic Party Chair Aaron Whitley, State Representative Anne Allen Westbrook and Men4Choice organizer John Hartman.
  • “These women should be alive today, and they should still be with their families,” said Westbook. “Yet Republicans like Buddy Carter, John King and Mike Collins were eager to praise Governor Kemp’s extreme abortion ban after it went into effect in 2022. How these candidates could praise an extreme ban that led to the deaths of multiple women and force others to seek healthcare out of state, I will never understand.”
  • “These candidates are not the kind of candidates we can trust in the U.S. Senate, but we can trust Sen. Ossoff,” Westbrook said. “Because we have seen his body of work in the Senate over his term.”
