Help Move Georgia Forward
GA doctor: “This has impacted our ability to serve our veterans… It’s going to impact how long they will have to wait for services.”
A group of Georgia scientists who conduct life-saving medical research penned a letter to Governor Brian Kemp and Attorney General Chris Carr imploring them to stand up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s devastating research funding cuts – which Kemp and Carr continue to refuse to do.
Last month, Chris Carr refused to join 22 other state attorneys general in a lawsuit that successfully blocked Trump’s NIH funding cuts. And Kemp threw his support behind mass layoffs of employees at the Atlanta-based CDC, saying, “I know they have some layoffs at the CDC and other things, but government can stand a little rightsizing.”
The scientists say that the Trump/Musk cuts to National Institutes of Health funding have jeopardized their work on everything from cancer research to cardiac care for veterans. The cuts also threaten nearly 12,000 jobs across Georgia and $780 million in funding for hospitals, businesses that power Georgia’s medical research industry, and schools like the University of Georgia and Emory University that produce cutting-edge research.
