August 4, 2012

Savannah – Over 30 delegates to next month’s Democratic Convention met in Savannah to be briefed on their role in nominating President Obama for his second term.

The meeting, held in the Georgia party’s E. Bay Street office, featured some of Georgia’s most notable Democrats. Savannah State Senator and DPG Treasurer Lester Jackson, Rep. Al Williams, Vice-Chair Miguel Camacho, First Vice-Chair Nikema Williams and Chairman Mike Berlon were all in attendance.

Candidates at the event included Chatham County Clerk of Superior Court candidate Tawana Garrett and candidate for Public Service Commission Steve Oppenheimer.

“Everyone loves to come to Savannah,” explained Senator Lester Jackson. “We have a great Democratic Party of Georgia office here, and it allows us to showcase this beautiful city.”

The meeting was held in Savannah to prepare for the Convention to be held the first week of September in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The DPGs office in Savannah has been a tremendous asset to the community, said party officials. The office is located at 406 E. Bay Street and encourages potential volunteers to stop by during regular business hours.
