Georgia Democratic Chairman Invited to Taiwan

April 8, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Friday, April 8 2011

Visit indicates great trust between Taiwan, DNC and GA Dems

Georgia – Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman Mike Berlon will visit Taiwan next week as a guest of the Taiwanese government and as a representative of the Democratic National Committee.

Berlon will participate in a frank exchange of political ideas with the President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou, and his cabinet officials. The state chair was selected for the trip by former DNC head Tim Kaine shortly after Berlon’s election in late January.

“It’s an honor to be chosen,” said Berlon. “Georgia is one of only six state parties that will be included on this trip, and I am one of only three state Democratic chairs.” The nine-day trip is especially meaningful given that he has chaired the state Democratic Party for less than three months, Berlon explained.

This is Chairman Berlon’s second trip overseas as a representative of the Democratic Party this year. Previously, Berlon met with representatives of Democrats Abroad in France and Holland.

“The DNC and former Chairman Kaine has shown a lot of faith in me,” concluded Berlon. “I’m confident this will result in a stronger and more meaningful Democratic Party in the state of Georgia as we approach the 2012 elections.”
