Today, on the four-year anniversary of the storming of the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, Rep. Mike Collins (GA-10) tried to re-write the attack on democracy, calling the rioters “peaceful grandmothers” and advocating for pardons for the offenders.

Contrary to Collins’ revisionist history, January 6th was a violent riot during which rioters beat police officers with flagpoles, baseball bats and lead pipes; caused nearly $3 million worth of damage in the U.S. Capitol; and called for the hanging of the Vice President – resulting in 140 injured and multiple deaths.

“Rewriting history to erase Donald Trump’s assault on our democracy that injured 140 law enforcement officers and cost others their lives shows Mike Collins is not a serious person,” said DPG spokesperson Alex Yerkey. “By calling for pardons for the rioters who attacked and desecrated our nation’s Capitol on January 6th, Mike Collins has shown he has no business representing the people of Georgia in its halls.”
