FRIDAY: Trump’s “Pit Bulls” on Georgia State Election Board To Consider Additional Election-Year Changes that Election Officials Warn Will Cause Chaos and Confusion

September 19, 2024

ATLANTA – Georgia’s State Election Board (SEB) is holding a meeting tomorrow, Friday, September 20, where three of the board members that former President Donald Trump described as his “pit bulls” for “victory” are seeking to make additional 11th-hour changes to how Georgia conducts elections despite election officials across Georgia publicly begging them to stop

WHAT: Georgia State Election Board Meeting

WHEN: Starts at 9 AM ET

WHERE: Georgia State Capitol, Room 341

“The State Election Board exists to protect the right to vote for all Georgians, but Donald Trump’s ‘pit bulls’ for ‘victory’ are working on his behalf to sow enough doubt in our electoral process to allow him to fraudulently claim victory should he lose – just as he did in 2020,” said DPG Executive Director Tolulope Kevin Olasanoye. “The SEB should heed the advice of non-partisan election officials across the state who have warned that making changes this close to the election will cause chaos and focus on fixing the mess they have created.”

Election officials on non-partisan boards across the state have called on the SEB to stop making rule changes so close to the election, warning that the changes could raise the risk of disruptions and burden already overworked election workers. A growing chorus of Georgia Republicans has expressed concern about the SEB’s attempt to pass the new rules.

Former President and current Republican Party nominee Donald Trump praised a three-member SEB majority block at his campaign rally in Atlanta on August 3rd, describing Republicans Rick Jeffares, Janelle King, and Janice Johnston, as his “pit bulls” fighting for “victory,” while celebrating their efforts that have been described by legal observers as “rewriting election law.”

Trump’s SEB “pit bulls” have already approved several new rules drafted in coordination with pro-Trump operatives and right-wing election deniers like Salleigh Grubbs, who sat in a VIP seat at the Stop the Steal rally on January 6th; and Julie Adams, who is a member of the right-wing Election Integrity Network led by Trump’s “Stop the Steal” attorney, Cleta Mitchell. The Democratic Party of Georgia and the Democratic National Committee filed lawsuits over the election-denier proposed rules approved by Trump’s “pit bulls” that will be addressed at a hearing on October 1, 2024.
