JONES REFUSES TO FIGHT FOR RELIEF AT THE PUMP: Reporting from Georgia Recorder Wednesday revealed that Burt Jones is flat-out refusing to fight to extend the gas tax suspension.
- When asked whether he would support extending the suspension of the gas tax, Jones declined to comment — refusing to stand up for hardworking Georgians who are feeling squeezed by sky-high gas prices brought on by Trump’s Iran War.
- The expiration of the gas tax suspension will force Georgians to pay even more at the pump, with prices that have increased by more than a dollar per gallon since February.
- Meanwhile, Keisha Lance Bottoms has made clear that she would push for a gas tax suspension as governor as she remains laser-focused on lowering costs for Georgians.
JONES DEFENDS FAILED ‘PATHWAYS’ HEALTH CARE SCAM, PROUDLY DEFENDS STATUS QUO ON HEALTH CARE: At Monday’s Atlanta Press Club debate, Jones strongly defended the GOP record on healthcare that has led to a healthcare crisis sweeping our state.
- When asked about how to increase access to health care as 500,000 Georgians have lost their health insurance in recent months, Jones boasted about his record, saying, “Well, I’ve done it as Lieutenant Governor.”
- He went on to defend the failed Georgia Pathways program, which has cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars (mostly in consultant fees) while doing next to nothing to provide Georgians with accessible care.
- Jones and Jackson both have a record of vocally opposing Medicaid expansion, which has led to nine rural hospitals shutting down across our state.
JACKSON DODGES DEBATE AS BOTH TALK ABOUT ANYTHING BUT LOWERING GEORGIANS’ COSTS: Jackson was too afraid to face questions about his record at the Atlanta Press Club debate Monday, leaving Jones alone on stage to spout his extreme MAGA agenda.
- Throughout the course of the debate, Jones also forcefully backed redrawing maps to dilute Black Georgians’ voting power.
- And when asked about his work to undermine Georgia’s elections – including his role as a fake elector in 2020 – Jones doubled down on his record, saying “It is what it is.” This comes as Jackson has also been “adamant” that the 2020 election was stolen.
JONES AND JACKSON RAMP UP ATTACKS AS RUN-OFF ENTERS FINAL STRETCH: With early voting starting Monday, June 8, Jones and Jackson are taking as many swings as they can, continuing to go full scorched earth as this run-off enters its final stretch.
- At the debate Monday, Jones viciously slammed Jackson for allegations of corruption, saying, “What is the deal with the Medicare fraud and the $750,000 in settlement money that he paid the Department of Justice?”
- This comes as Jones released a new video on Thursday, saying that Jackson “has been caught in a Medicare scheme targeting seniors, has $30 Million in unpaid taxes, and lawsuits of trafficking and racketeering…this guy is a straight up fraud.”
- And in a series of social media videos and AI-generated memes this week, Jackson hammered Jones for his record of self-dealing on the taxpayers’ dime, calling him a “self-serving politician” who is “too corrupt for Georgia.”
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Detailing the stakes of this election, Alander Rocha and Ross Williams of Georgia Recorder wrote on Monday: “While Jackson repeated campaign talking points at the Kennesaw rally and did not take questions from reporters, Jones was pressed at the debate about having previously denied the 2020 election results when he served as one of the “alternate” Republican electors in Georgia who signed documents falsely proclaiming Trump won the 2020 election.”
