In the wake of Governor Kemp calling a special session this week to redraw Georgia’s maps, here’s a reminder that Burt Jones and Rick Jackson are both all-in on this effort to dilute Black Georgians’ voting power and representation.

With four days to go before the primary, here’s the latest on this vicious GOP race for governor:

REMINDER: JONES AND JACKSON PUSHED KEMP TO CALL A SPECIAL SESSION TO DILUTE BLACK REPRESENTATION: With Kemp announcing a special session to redraw Georgia’s maps and dilute Black Georgians’ voting power this week, a reminder that Jones and Jackson pushed him to do this.

  • In statements posted on social media, Jones said that “the Supreme Court made the right decision today” and that he “fully support[s] redrawing our state’s legislative maps.”
  • Jackson echoed this, doubling down on calling for a special session in which “redrawing the maps must be added to the agenda,” and that “[t]here is no time to waste.”

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY: JACKSON AND JONES FACE FINANCIAL SCRUTINY: As this GOP race has devolved into a “big-money slugfest,” both Jackson and Jones are facing questions about their finances.

  • Jackson is facing renewed scrutiny for his previous political donations to Democrats, with Jones writing on social media that he “needs to explain this to Georgia voters immediately.”
  • Jones is also facing questions about his personal fortune and how he can afford to loan himself $16 million, with Jackson’s campaign writing that “the math ain’t mathing.”

JONES AND JACKSON CAN’T KEEP TRUMP’S NAME OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS: Jones and Jackson can’t stop talking about how much they love Trump – even as more and more Georgia voters turn away and the president’s MAGA agenda is increasingly toxic with voters.

  • In a new video released Thursday, Jones once again touted his ties to the President, saying that he’s “fought alongside the president since 2016” and accusing his GOP rivals of having “opposed President Trump and the America first agenda at every turn.”
  • And on The Morning Xtra podcast, Jackson praised Trump’s “business decisions” and called them “unbelievable” – even as new data this week showed that Trump’s policies are accelerating inflation and driving up costs for Georgians.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: On Wednesday, The New York Times’ Rick Rojas, Katie Benner and Michelle Baruchman reported on the millions that Rick Jackson and Burt Jones are using to destroy each other ahead of the May 19 primary. They wrote, “Democrats have relished the infighting among Republicans, believing it will leave the primary winner with a bruised reputation and depleted resources heading into the general election.”
