This week, Burt Jones and Rick Jackson couldn’t stop reminding Georgians of their corrupt and extreme records, with Jones holding (yet another) tele-rally with Trump and new reporting showing Jackson admitting he’d ban all abortions – even in cases of rape.
As this Republican run-off enters its final stretch, here’s the latest on this vicious battle for governor:
JONES HOLDS (YET ANOTHER) TELE-RALLY WITH TRUMP: On Wednesday, Burt Jones announced yet another tele-rally with Donald Trump – his second in the past month alone, as he continues to put his loyalty to Trump ahead of what’s best for Georgians.
- Trump heaped praise on Jones, calling him a “fanatic” for his work as a fake elector who tried to overturn the will of Georgia voters.
- Jones has made his endorsement from Trump a central pitch of his campaign, and stood side-by-side with Trump earlier this year in Rome as the president mocked the affordability crisis and praised the illegal tariffs that have raised costs on Georgians.
- Jackson has made his loyalty to Trump a central pitch of his campaign, telling the AJC earlier this year that he will be “Trump’s favorite governor” and that he “couldn’t name a single White House policy he disagrees with.”
JONES AND JACKSON COMPETE OVER WHO’S MORE CORRUPT: After months of brutal infighting over who’s benefitted most off the backs of Georgia taxpayers, Jones and Jackson went even more scorched earth this week over their extreme and self-dealing records.
- The Jackson campaign shared a video on Thursday saying that “Burt Jones and his family have gamed the system to enrich themselves for years, no matter who it hurts.”
- And in a series of new videos, Jones continued to hammer Jackson for his employment practices and his phoney record, accusing him of “stalking” Georgians and saying that Jackson is “scared voters will find out about his record.”
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: With Democrats united behind Keisha Lance Bottoms and Republicans stuck in a battle to see who’s more corrupt, this week the AJC reported that, “Keisha Lance Bottoms isn’t waiting for Republicans to pick their nominee for governor before trying to define the race. The Democratic nominee for governor returns to the airwaves Tuesday with two ads that aim to capitalize on the ongoing turf war between Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and billionaire Rick Jackson.” The AJC added: “It’s another example of Democrats trying to make the most of their head start while Republicans spend another week locked in a bitter runoff.”
