FOX 5 Atlanta: “This is going to be a really steep hill to climb for Derek Dooley.”

Over the weekend, failed and fired former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley took major heat from Fox 5’s The Georgia Gang for being unprepared on the stump, for not voting in past elections, and for his abysmal coaching record.

These hits come as Dooley’s campaign launch has been largely overshadowed by coverage of his failed coaching career.

  • [PHIL KENT] “This is going to be a really steep hill to climb for Derek Dooley.”
  • “He was asked the question, ‘What do you think of the H-2A visa?’ He didn’t know what it was. He had to ask an aide. This is terrible. He wasn’t prepped on some of these key things? Unbelievable.”
  • [THARON JOHNSON] “The question that Derek Dooley is going to have to answer is, what have you been doing since you left Tennessee? […] He was fired from there in 2012 […]”
  • [LORI GEARY] “Congressman Mike Collins wasted no time attacking him, pointing out the fact that he hadn’t voted in several elections.”
  • “When you’re running for office […] how do you justify not voting in elections, especially presidential elections?”
  • [MELITA EASTERS] “Buddy Carter said this week, “He wasn’t a star. He wasn’t a successful coach, either […]”
  • “[Dooley] is not just a blank canvas because we don’t know where he stands — not voting is a big hole in the middle of the canvas in a way.”
  • “He’s not rushing to let us know where he stands on anything.”
  • “He’s very untested and he needs a lot of coaching for a coach.”
