Today, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey released the following statement on the fifth anniversary of the violent January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol:
“In the five years since the violent January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Donald Trump and his MAGA allies have endlessly attacked Georgians’ freedom to vote and our state’s free and fair election system, undermining democracy and everything America stands for.
“It’s no coincidence that Donald Trump has already made his choice for governor, wholeheartedly endorsing election denier Burt Jones who has long fought to overturn the will of Georgia voters. Meanwhile, Derek Dooley, Mike Collins, and Buddy Carter repeatedly side with Trump’s extremism at every turn.
“Up and down the ballot, it’s clear that GOP candidates who back Donald Trump’s extremism – including his pardoning of those who assaulted police officers on January 6th – cannot ever be trusted to truly represent Georgians at any level of government. As we look ahead to the midterm elections for Senate, Governor, and down-ballot races in November, the Democratic Party of Georgia is firmly committed to defeating election deniers and those who wish to overturn the voices of Georgians.”
