Today, after one of the most bruising GOP primaries in recent state history, Georgia Republicans selected billionaire Rick Jackson as their nominee for governor. This comes after months of GOP infighting that exposed Jackson’s blatant corruption and MAGA extremism, and which showed just how divided Georgia Republicans are heading into this general election.
In response, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia Charlie Bailey issued the following statement:
“With gas prices soaring and living expenses out of control, the GOP nominee for governor is Rick Jackson, an out-of-touch billionaire who doesn’t even pretend to care about the issues facing Georgians. He’s consistently reminded Georgians that he’s only out for himself, pocketing over a billion dollars in state contracts and bragging about his profits from the same policies that are raising costs for Georgians.”
“Jackson can’t even name a single Trump policy he disagrees with – and vocally supports the cost-raising policies coming out of DC that are raising costs on Georgians and making life harder for Georgia families, farmers, and small businesses alike.”
“While Jackson lines his pockets and swears allegiance to Trump, Keisha Lance Bottoms is laser-focused on lowering our costs, expanding our healthcare, and investing in Georgians’ education. The choice couldn’t be any more clear, and Georgia Democrats are amped and fired up to send Keisha Lance Bottoms to the Governor’s Mansion in November.”
Here’s what to know about Rick Jackson’s long history of corruption and self-enrichment:
- Rick Jackson has enriched himself on no-bid state contracts, making over a billion dollars from state agencies that exist to serve Georgians and which would pose significant conflicts of interest if he was ever elected governor.
- Jackson has also stood accused of defrauding seniors through his billion-dollar healthcare company; in 2024 he agreed to pay $700,000 to “resolve allegations” that he participated in a kickback scheme to bill Medicare for medically unnecessary equipment.
- Jackson has also admitted on several occasions that his policy decisions are driven by what will best benefit his bottom line. Earlier this year, he admitted to profiting off Trump’s tariffs that have taken money directly out of Georgians’ pockets, and boasted that the Big Billionaire Bill has lowered his taxes by 40 percent.
