Late Friday, Republicans in the state legislature passed HB 369 – a bill that would remove party affiliation from ballots only in five traditionally Democratic metro Atlanta counties in a deliberate attempt to deceive voters in these counties into voting for Republicans. The bill has faced intense backlash, including unanimous opposition from the nonpartisan District Attorneys Association of Georgia. In response, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey released the following statement:
“After years of underfunding public safety, Republican politicians have a lot of nerve making political targets out of prosecutors who work every day to keep our communities safe. These Gold Dome insider Republicans should be embarrassed that they have to hide their party affiliation and confuse voters to have a hope of competing against the five duly elected Black women district attorneys that this bill was specifically designed to target.”
