Rick Jackson admitted to supporting Trump’s Big Billionaire Bill because it lowered his taxes – even while Georgians suffered.
This Saturday marks one year since the enactment of Trump’s Big Billionaire Bill – a law that Rick Jackson supports. Jackson has bragged about the legislation making him even richer, all while more than 500,000 Georgians have lost coverage as a result.
Trump refused to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and made the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. When asked by a voter in Thomasville in March if he supported these actions, Jackson boasted about how the bill lowered his taxes by 40 percent.
To mark one year of the Big Billionaire Bill making Rick Jackson even richer on the backs of Georgians, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey issued this statement:
“With rising costs and skyrocketing healthcare premiums, the past year has been tough for Georgians – but great for Rick Jackson’s wallet. Slick Rick is so out-of-touch that he’s literally gone around to campaign events bragging about how Trump’s Big Billionaire Bill has made him even richer, all while more than a half of a million Georgians have lost healthcare as a result. It couldn’t be more clear that Jackson is only out for himself, and is far more concerned with his own bottom line than making life more affordable for Georgia families.”
And while Rick Jackson has bragged about profiting off our pain, the Big Billionaire Bill has devastated Georgians:
- More than 500,000 Georgians have lost their healthcare due to rising costs brought about by the expiration of the Affordable Care Act tax credits.
- 1.4 million Georgians are now paying an average of $860 more monthly on health care to pay for very same tax cuts that Jackson is benefitting from.
- The Big Billionaire Bill has already resulted in the closure of a labor & delivery unit in rural northeast Georgia.
- This crisis has been worsened in Georgia by the fact that our state has not expanded Medicaid. Jackson has made clear he strongly opposes Medicaid expansion, a position which has resulted in the closure of nine rural hospitals all across Georgia since 2010.
