After months of brutal GOP infighting, Burt Jones and Rick Jackson will continue their all-out brawl up until a June 16 Republican run-off. This ensures four more weeks of bitter attacks that will leave the eventual GOP nominee badly bruised and limping into the general election.
In response, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey released the following statement:
“It looks like the nastiest and most expensive Republican primary in Georgia history is going into overtime. Georgians are already sick and tired of watching a billionaire health care executive and a corrupt serial self-dealer fighting to out-MAGA each other – and they’re about to get four more brutal weeks of it. No matter who emerges from this runoff, Georgians won’t be able to unhear just how corrupt, extreme, and out-of-touch those two sorry options are. Bring it on.”
Regardless of who Republican voters nominate in June, both candidates are way too extreme and out-of-step with Georgia voters. Burt Jones and Rick Jackson:
- Both strongly support Trump’s Big Billionaire Bill that’s cutting healthcare for hundreds of thousands of Georgians;
- Both strongly oppose Medicaid expansion, which has resulted in nine rural hospitals closing all across our state;
- Both back the tariff tax increases that have been described as a “gut punch” by Georgia small business owners;
- Both support Georgia’s extreme abortion ban, which threatens health care providers with jail time and often impacts women before they even know they’re pregnant.
- Jackson recently revealed that he would “absolutely confirm” a total abortion ban, and admitted to getting Georgia’s current abortion ban over the finish line;
- Jones also supports a total abortion ban, admitting in a 2022 debate that he does not support exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the mother.
- And even as the Trump administration has fired federal workers en masse – including CDC employees here in Atlanta – both candidates supported these reckless cuts, and Jones worked overtime to champion a state-level DOGE program that would “complement” Trump’s actions in DC.
