Today, Brad Raffensperger qualified to run for governor, the latest Republican in a GOP primary that has been defined by the candidates staking out extreme and unpopular cost-raising positions that are deeply out of touch with the needs of Georgia families.
In response, DPG spokesperson Jake Strickland issued the following statement:
“Brad Raffensperger’s fight to remain relevant is second only to his fight for cost-raising, healthcare-gutting policies that are hurting Georgia families. Just like the rest of his GOP rivals, Raffensperger is anti-choice, opposes expanding health care to hundreds of thousands of Georgians, and he has cheered on DC Republicans as they jack up costs and make health insurance unaffordable. Make no mistake: Raffensperger supports hardline policies that kill jobs, raise costs, and deny Georgians access to health care – just like every other Republican in this field.”
As this far-right GOP primary battle gets underway, Raffensperger has routinely staked out extreme positions that have jacked up costs and worsened Georgia’s health care crisis:
- Raffensperger opposes Medicaid expansion, which has resulted in nine rural hospitals closing their doors across the state since 2009.
- Raffensperger strongly supported Trump’s budget bill that has resulted in 1.4 million Georgians seeing their premiums skyrocket by more than $860 a month on average.
- Raffensperger has strongly defended extreme abortion bans every step of the way, even as these harmful policies have resulted in a maternal mortality crisis sweeping Georgia.
