Today, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Charlie Bailey and former State Representative Alisha Thomas Searcy held a press call to highlight Rick Jackson’s long record of getting rich off Georgia taxpayers – and selling Georgia out to Donald Trump.
Throughout the messy GOP primary, Jackson made clear that he’s just like Donald Trump – and in the process, exposed a lot of baggage that will come back to haunt him in the general election.
Here’s just some of what Chair Bailey and Alisha Thomas Searcy had to say about Rick Jackson’s long record of corruption and self-enrichment.
Chair Bailey: “[Rick Jackson is] a corrupt, wildly out-of-touch billionaire who doesn’t even pretend to care about the issues that are facing Georgians every day, and his record makes it clear his number one priority is his bottom line. You can look no further than the fact he’s pocketed over a billion dollars [on] state contracts on the backs of Georgia taxpayers. He paid a $700,000 settlement to settle allegations that he scammed seniors through a Medicare kickback scheme. And as Georgians are paying more every day with these cost-raising tariffs and cuts to health care, he actually has bragged about those same policies lining his own pockets.”
Alisha Thomas Searcy: “Here we are more than a day after the race was called, and still Burt Jones has yet to endorse Rick Jackson. I think that speaks volumes, and it points to the deep divides within the Georgia GOP heading into the general election. That division has been loud and clear for everyone to see, and we’re not going to forget. Georgians are not going to forget all of the terrible things that we heard about Rick Jackson over the last few months.”
Jackson has a long record of self-enrichment at the expense of working Georgians.
- Rick Jackson has enriched himself on no-bid state contracts, and has received over a billion dollars from state agencies that exist to serve Georgians and which would pose significant conflicts of interest if he was ever elected governor.
- Jackson has also stood accused of defrauding seniors through his billion-dollar healthcare company and paid $700,000 to “resolve allegations” that he participated in a Medicare kickback scheme.
- Jackson has also admitted to profiting off Trump’s policies that hurt Georgia, including making money off Trump’s tariffs that have jacked up costs and paying lower taxes because of the Big Ugly Bill that took away healthcare from half a million Georgians.
Jackson has made it clear he will fight for Trump instead of the needs of Georgians.
- Jackson “said he couldn’t name a single White House policy he disagrees with,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
- Jackson has repeatedly told voters that he will be “Trump’s favorite governor” and that he will be “Trump with a Southern tone.”
- In an April 27 debate, Jackson shared that he wants to run Georgia’s economy “just like Trump,” even as the president continues to admit that he “love[s] the inflation” that is jacking up costs on Georgians everywhere.
- Jackson continues to support the very same Trump policies that are hurting Georgians, even admitting earlier this year that he supports cost-raising tariffs because he made money off them, and that he supports the Big Beautiful Bill because it lowered his taxes.
