Today, following Dr Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard’s victories in the statewide Public Service Commission elections, DPG Chair Charlie Bailey released the following statement:

“Today, after three decades of Republican control of the PSC, Georgians voted to put people ahead of corporate profits on the Public Service Commission. Peter Hubbard and Dr. Alicia Johnson’s decisive victories are a win for our wallets, our clean energy future, and for hardworking Georgians all across the state, who for years have endured skyrocketing power bills at the hands of the all-Republican Public Service Commission.

“We are officially putting Georgia Republicans on notice. Today, we beat them by running an expansive organizing and paid media program throughout our entire state, and we will continue to out-organize and out-strategize them to take power back for the working people of Georgia.

“In this election, Georgians spoke up loud and clear: they’re sick of Republicans who help corporations and billionaires enrich themselves on the backs of working people, and they’re ready to hold those Republicans accountable. That’s why they voted to elect Democrats to statewide constitutional offices for the first time in two decades. Tonight, we celebrate Alicia and Peter’s victory, and tomorrow, we get back to the work at hand: organizing everywhere and carrying this momentum into 2026, when we will elect and re-elect strong Democrats at every level of the ticket – from the State House to the U.S. Senate.”

The Public Service Commission races mark Georgia Democrats’ first victory in a non-federal statewide election in nearly two decades. The DPG ran an unprecedented organizing program in these races, including twice-weekly phone banks, a statewide canvass operation led by trained County Organizing Leads, a coordinated literature piece, and a $250,000 TV and digital ad buy calling out the Republican incumbents’ records. With these victories, the DPG went toe-to-toe with the Georgia Republican machine and won.
