ATLANTA — Following the announcement that no officers would be charged for the death of Breonna Taylor, Democratic Party of Georgia Chairwoman Nikema Williams issued the following statement:

“I am heartbroken and angry for the family and loved ones of Breonna Taylor, who has been failed by a corrupt system. Let’s be extremely clear: Breonna and the Black Americans who die every day from police brutality and violent white supremacy deserve real justice, and a permanent end to this violence against our people, not platitudes and empty words from a government that couldn’t even charge her murderers for the crime.

We ache for Louisville tonight, and we stand with the protesters calling for real justice. Now, we must work every day to elect leaders who will protect Black lives daily, and hold our leaders accountable until every Black and brown child can truly live safely and free in this country.”
