Following last night’s primary and judicial elections, DPG Chair Charlie Bailey released the following statement:

“In the May 2026 elections, more than two million fired-up Georgians turned out to vote, shattering records for a midterm primary – and Democrats out-balloted Republicans by a whopping 7 percentage points in the Governor’s race. This record-breaking turnout and wide Democratic ballot margin are proof positive of what we already know: all across the state, Georgians are sick and tired of 23 years of failed Republican rule, and they are showing up to throw Republicans out of office and elect Democrats who will fight for them.

“We extend a huge congratulations to Keisha Lance Bottoms on her decisive win in the gubernatorial primary, and to Tanya Miller for decisively securing the nomination for Attorney General, and to our U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff – we are more than ready to send these strong Democrats and our future nominees across the ticket to victory in November.

“This year, the Democratic Party of Georgia also ran an audacious, first-of-its-kind campaign to flip two Supreme Court seats – raising and spending over $8 million on an operation that included multiple statewide TV, radio and digital ads; five rounds of statewide mail, and over 50,000 pieces of campaign literature; and nearly 30,000 yard signs that were distributed across the state by a coordinated statewide organizing program that resulted in hundreds of thousands of voters reached on phones and at their doors in less than three months.

“This unprecedented operation stoked sky-high Democratic enthusiasm, drove the record-shattering turnout we saw, and brought Miracle Rankin within two points of unseating an incumbent Supreme Court justice – a feat that has not been accomplished in a century of Georgia history. Georgia Democrats congratulate Miracle Rankin and Jen Jordan on their historic, courageous campaigns, as well as Will Wooten on his hard-fought race for the Georgia Court of Appeals.

“When I became Chair of the state party, I told Georgia Democrats: I can’t promise you we’re gonna win every race, but we’re gonna win a hell of a lot more than we lose – and even in those that we lose, we are going to make Republicans crawl over broken glass to get these seats from us. At the Democratic Party of Georgia, we fight. With a strong majority of the people of Georgia with us, it’s on to November.”
