Help Move Georgia Forward
Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia hosted a press conference with Chair Charlie Bailey, State Rep. Shea Roberts, Planned Parenthood Southeast Vice President Jaylen Black, and Men4Choice organizer Blake Robinson to mark the third anniversary of the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and to to denounce the GOP U.S. Senate candidates who continue to push a dangerous, anti-abortion agenda that would further rip away reproductive freedom.
The press conference took place in front of a newly unveiled mural, dedicated to the women who lost their lives as a result of Georgia’s extreme abortion ban, Amber Thurman and Candi Miller.
Right now, Georgia has the “toughest abortion ban in the country” which has put doctors at risk of felony charges and led to the deaths of Georgia women. The GOP candidates running for Senate and those considering it are anti-abortion extremists who would further restrict abortion access. “MAGA warrior” Rep. Buddy Carter, Commissioner John King, and Rep. Mike Collins all celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and have proudly supported the state’s extreme abortion ban.
Key Quotes:
DPG Chair Charlie Bailey:
“We’ve seen multiple women tragically lose their lives because some fat cat politicians think they know better than women, their families, and their doctors. Now, some of those same politicians want promotions to the U.S. Senate — and we can’t afford to let that happen.”
State Rep. Shea Roberts:
“These women should be alive today, and they should still be with their families. Yet Carter, King, and Collins have stood by the very ban that led to these deaths. We can’t trust them in the US Senate.”
Jaylen Black, Planned Parenthood Southeast:
“Extreme abortion bans like the one we have in Georgia weaken our freedom and weaken our health care. The effect Georgia’s abortion ban has on our health system is felt all over the state. Doctors are fleeing the state and medical students avoid residency programs here, which makes it harder for Georgians to get the care that they so desperately need.”
Blake Robinson, Men4Choice:
“Three years since the end of Roe, Republicans still stand on an abortion ban that not only limits access to abortion for pregnant women and those who don’t even know they’re pregnant at six weeks, but it also is literally killing women. We’ve seen it, we’ve heard it, we’ve spoken their names, and it’s time that we make that change.”
