Help Move Georgia Forward
Democratic enthusiasm outstrips Republicans, despite both parties having contested primaries
Democrats cast 2.2 times the number of votes statewide in yesterday’s special primary for Public Service Commission as Republicans, despite both parties having contested primaries. There were over 142,000 votes cast in the Democratic primaries compared to just over 64,000 votes in the Republican primaries.
Georgians haven’t had a chance to vote on Public Service Commissioners in five years. Since the cancellation of the 2022 PSC election, the all-Republican Commission has approved six rate hikes that have hiked Georgians’ power bills by an average of $43 a month.
“In a down-ballot, off-year special primary election, Democrats showed up to the polls in more than double the numbers as Republicans,” said DPG Chair Charlie Bailey. “Republicans are on notice: It’s clear Georgians are ready to elect strong Democrats to the Public Service Commission who will put people first, not corporate profits.”
