In response to President Trump’s political stunt yesterday in which he announced he was extending the moratorium on offshore drilling and expanding it to the Atlantic coasts of Georgia, Georgia Democratic Party spokesperson Maggie Chambers released the following statement:
“Trump’s move yesterday is nothing more than an election year stunt to distract voters from four years of his disastrous record on the environment. After all, why would we believe Trump when he calls the climate crisis a ‘hoax’? Georgia’s coastal communities understand what is at stake with offshore drilling, and how it would hurt our coastal fisheries and devastate our tourism industry. That is why we must elect Joe Biden and Democrats up and down the ballot in Georgia who will take our climate crisis seriously and oppose offshore drilling for good, not just when it’s politically convenient.”
