Today, following the election of Liz Shuler as president of AFL-CIO, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:

“On behalf of Georgia Democrats, I want to congratulate Liz Shuler on her historic election as AFL-CIO President. As the first woman to hold this crucial role, I know Liz will build on the federation’s legacy of driving progressive change while charting a new, more inclusive, and more prosperous path for the national labor movement. Union labor is the lifeblood of our economy, supporting working families and communities all across Georgia. Georgia Democrats will continue standing shoulder to shoulder with labor leaders here and across the nation to fight for working families and advocate for economic and social justice on behalf of every Georgian.”
