Today, on the first anniversary of the passing of civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:

“One year ago today, Georgia lost a giant in Congressman John Lewis. While I know he would be proud of the progress our beloved state and country have made, he’d also be the first to remind us of the long march ahead toward a more righteous future for all. As a new generation of leaders steps up to carry on his legacy, we have an obligation to honor his life’s work. This includes passing federal voting rights legislation, which he played a crucial role in crafting and which guarantees all Americans free and fair access to the ballot – an effort he dedicated his life to realizing. May Congressman John Lewis’ memory serve as inspiration in the continued fight for justice, freedom, and equality for all.”
