Help Move Georgia Forward
A year after President Biden designated Juneteenth as a federal holiday, Democrats have joined Georgians across the state in celebrating emancipation and recommitting ourselves to the ongoing fight for a more perfect union. On the second occasion of this federal holiday, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:
“On Juneteenth, we commemorate a pivotal milestone in the fight for liberation for Black Americans – and also recognize that while we have come so far, the fight for full equality continues today. Celebrating Juneteenth is more important now than ever, especially as Republicans attempt to censor honest discussions around America’s history and racial injustice. Today and every day, Georgia Democrats are committed to the pursuit of liberation, justice, and equality, and we will always fight for the full freedom of Black Americans and all people.”
