Help Move Georgia Forward
Today, after Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed to the Supreme Court by a bipartisan U.S. Senate vote, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:
“Judge Jackson is the daughter of public school teachers, has an accomplished career as a lawyer, public defender, and federal judge, and now will be the first Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court. Today’s bipartisan Senate vote not only adds a brilliant legal mind with the utmost character, integrity, and understanding of the law to our nation’s highest court, but will also make the Supreme Court better reflective of the diversity of our nation.
“This historic confirmation is only possible thanks to Georgia voters, who sent President Joe Biden to the White House and secured the Senate Democratic majority by electing Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock. As the Democratic Party of Georgia celebrates history being made today, we remain committed to electing champions of progress.”
