Help Move Georgia Forward
Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia announced the launch of Battleground South, a joint fundraising agreement with the Democratic parties of Arizona, North Carolina, and Virginia. This small-dollar fundraising initiative is part of a continued partnership among Democratic parties in key Southern battleground states, which played a consequential role in the 2020 elections and continue to see unprecedented grassroots enthusiasm ahead of critical gubernatorial and Senate races in 2021 and 2022.
Battleground South will launch alongside a digital ad campaign with various celebrity partners, starting today with videos featuring actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
“We’re excited to combine forces with fellow state parties amid historic momentum for Southern Democrats,” said Scott Hogan, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Georgia and the Battleground South states will be at the forefront of the midterm elections, and this early fundraising initiative will ensure we have the resources we need to uphold our Senate and House majorities, elect more Democrats at the state and local levels, and fight back against Republican voter suppression.”
“Midterms are right around the corner, and Arizona is proud to join Battleground South to start the work of electing more Democrats now,” said Charlie Fisher, Executive Director of the Arizona Democratic Party. “Republicans are pushing the most egregious assaults on voting rights and abortion access we’ve ever seen, and we know that we must work in coalition with other battleground states to fight back. Battleground South will help states like Arizona defend our U.S. Senate seat and elect state Democrats from the State House to the Governor’s office.”
“As we gear up for the midterm elections, we are thrilled to join forces with state parties across the country to leverage the building enthusiasm for Democrats in the South,” said Meredith Cuomo, Executive Director of the North Carolina Democratic Party. “North Carolina has already played host to former President Trump, and it’s clear Republicans will stop at nothing to advance their extreme agenda. With the opportunity to win an open U.S. Senate seat and elect Democrats to the legislature, this unprecedented effort will give us the resources necessary to build a broad-based coalition that powers Democratic victories up and down the ticket.”
“Virginia’s elections this year will be the most competitive races of the 2021 cycle and set the tone for midterms across the country. With Virginians’ health care, recovery from COVID, voting rights, and much more at stake this year, we need all hands on deck to keep our commonwealth blue,” said Andrew Whitley, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia. “We’re so thrilled to be partnering with our fellow state parties to form Battleground South and make sure Southern Democrats up and down the ballot have the resources they need to win.”
