“MAGA warrior” Rep. Buddy Carter and MAGA extremist Rep. Mike Collins are responsible for the longest government shutdown in history as they continue to refuse to extend crucial ACA tax credits for millions of Americans—including 1.4 million Georgians who are at risk of seeing their premiums skyrocket.
In addition to backing the longest government shutdown, Carter and Collins:
- Haven’t shown up to work in 47 days and counting.
- Are forcing Georgians to navigate the ACA open enrollment process without knowing whether or not they’ll be able to afford their premiums for next year.
- Refuse to negotiate as their constituents face premium increases of 296% and 345%, respectively, for an average 60-year-old couple.
House Speaker Mike Johnson claimed he is “tired of making history” yet has tellingly refused to return his members like Carter and Collins to Washington to end the government shutdown and protect health care.
“Buddy Carter and Mike Collins have proven to Georgians that they do not care how long this government shutdown lasts and that they will absolutely not stand up for affordable health care and stop premiums from skyrocketing,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Senior Communications Advisor Devon Cruz. “Georgians cannot trust Carter or Collins to do what is right and extend ACA tax credits because they would rather rip away affordable health care from millions than protect it.”
