With gas prices set to jump overnight as the gas tax suspension expires, Burt Jones and Rick Jackson have been completely silent on this issue, refusing to push for relief at the pump — even as the gas tax will push prices to more than $4 per gallon in much of the state.
Meanwhile, Keisha Lance Bottoms has made clear she would push for a gas tax suspension as governor – and urged Jones and Jackson to join her in calling for price relief at the pump.
The average price of a gallon of gas has risen more than a dollar since February and Georgians will be forced to pay another 33 cents per gallon.
“Right now, Georgians are wondering where leaders are as they face sky-high prices at the gas pump and Burt Jones and Rick Jackson are silent. Their lack of concern for Georgians who are preparing to pay even more is telling,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “While Keisha Lance Bottoms has made clear she wants to extend the gas tax suspension, it looks like Jones and Jackson are more focused on Donald Trump than Georgia families.”
As a reminder, Jones and Jackson have given Georgians no reason to believe that they’ll seriously work to lower gas prices.
- Jones is heir to the Jackson Petroleum Company, and even as Trump single-handedly caused gas prices to spike, Jones continues to praise the president, telling 11Alive recently, “I trust President Trump and what he’s doing over there in Iran.”
- Jackson has dodged questions about high gas prices on the campaign trail, and has strongly backed Trump’s Iran War that is causing gas prices to skyrocket.
