On Monday, Keisha Lance Bottoms challenged Rick Jackson to accept six televised debates all across Georgia–but 48 hours later, he’s still refusing to accept these general election debates.
This follows a well-established pattern of Jackson dodging debates and forms. During the Republican primary, Jackson skipped a forum focused on issues facing the Black community – and then, during the high-stakes GOP run-off, Jackson skipped the second debate with Burt Jones after he bombed his first performance so badly that even Fox News called him out on it.
“In typical fashion, Slick Rick Jackson refuses to debate and is keeping Georgians in the dark,” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Jake Strickland. “Why’s he so afraid? Maybe he’s terrified to finally go off the teleprompter. Maybe he’s scared about defending his record that includes getting filthy rich off taxpayer-funded government contracts. Or maybe he knows that defending his cost-raising, job-killing agenda on TV will be a bad look. But it’s beyond clear that Jackson would once again rather hide out in his billionaire bunker than level with Georgians about how he actually plans to run our state.”
Keisha has already accepted the Atlanta Press Club Loudermilk-Young debate on October 12, which Jackson declined to participate in. She will also participate in the following one-on-one debates:
- Middle Georgia Matters (Macon): September 17
- 11 Alive (Atlanta, simulcast on stations in Savannah, Macon, Columbus and Augusta): September 22
- Atlanta News First town hall debate (Atlanta, simulcast on Gray Media stations across Georgia): October 6
- WJCL-TV (Savannah): Oct 13
- CNN (Atlanta, nationally televised): Date TBD
