Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman Mike Berlon today released the following statement about Newt Gingrich’s announcement that he will run for President of the United States.

“Newt Gingrich has for decades been a leader of the far-right conservative movement with his ideas inspiring a generation of Republicans.  But instead of helping to move Georgians forward, his policies will only hurt working families.  Newt Gingrich is more concerned with his extreme ideology than in promoting policies that will create jobs and help America win the future.

“It’s no wonder that even Georgia Republicans don’t support Newt Gingrich, with only 31 percent saying they want him to get into the race, and only 22 percent saying they would vote for him in the primary.  Gingrich is so out of the mainstream that even our own state won’t support him.”
